Scar Separation (Subcision)

Scar separation, also known as subcision, is a procedure used to treat depressed scars. Fibrotic strands that tether the base of the scar to deeper skin layers are carefully released from inside.

Once released, the scar base gradually elevates, allowing the skin surface to become smoother through natural regenerative processes.

Unlike resurfacing procedures that reduce the edges, subcision works by lifting the base of the scar.

Indications

  • depressed acne scars
  • tethered scars
  • deep atrophic defects
  • post-inflammatory scars

Not suitable for hypertrophic or keloid scars.

Procedure & Recovery

Performed under local anesthesia. A small puncture is made to release fibrotic attachments beneath the scar.

The skin surface remains intact.

Downtime is minimal:

  • mild swelling may occur
  • small bruises are possible
  • makeup can be applied

Combination Therapy

Subcision can be combined with:

  • laser resurfacing
  • microneedling technologies
  • polynucleotides
  • PRP

Combination protocols provide more stable and pronounced results.
